ISA President, Fernando Aguerre statement for Asian Surfing Championships:
“I am thrilled to support our friends in Asia and their Asian Surfing Championships in July in the
Maldives, one of the world’s most beautiful destinations with incredible waves.“Surfing in Asia is growing at a stunning rate. The amazing success of surfing at the Tokyo 2020
Olympic Games, with two medallists from Japan, is a testimony to rapid development of the
sport on this continent.“The launch of these Asian Surfing Championships is a natural progression of that success,
providing another essential platform for young surfers across the continent to compete and
develop their competitive surfing.“It gives me great joy and pride to see Asia growing. This is also an extension of the ISA’s
commitment to expand the reach of the sport and continue to spread surfing’s core positive
values and our message of a Better World Through Surfing.“I applaud our friends in the Asian Surfing Federation on this initiative and I wish them the very
best of success for the Championships.”
